His contributions to this field helped secure the European Innovation Radar Prize for Excellent Science in 2018, underscoring his ability to bridge scientific theory with practical application.

As the Principal Investigator of the ASTROTECH project under the Horizon 2020 initiative, Dr. Carstensen advances cutting-edge research in light-based brain stimulation. His deep expertise extends to navigating the complex regulatory landscape of medical device development, particularly within the MDR 2017/745 framework.
