Professor Lance Kriegsfeld

PhD, Professor & Published Author

Lance Kriegsfeld is a Professor in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of California Berkeley. He has published close to 150 peer-reviewed empirical articles, review articles, and commentaries, and two books.

Professor Kriegsfeld’s work has been funded by The National Institutes of Health, The National Science Foundation, industry, and philanthropy. His principal line of research focuses on the role of circadian timing in physical and mental health, applying behavioral, histological, cell and tissue culture, pharmacological, molecular biological, and computational approaches to examine questions of interest from neural circuits and specific genes to neurochemical systems and behavior.

His group has used these approaches to investigate the role of circadian rhythms in aging and cognitive decline, female reproductive health, mental health, neurobehavioral development, and sleep. Professor Kriegsfeld’s work applies what he has learned from preclinical models and basic science to human populations to develop strategies to maximize mental and physiological health.

Professor Kriegsfeld is committed to intra-and extramural service, serving as Vice Chair in the Department of Psychology at Berkeley and routinely serving on National Institutes of Health study sections and journal editorial boards. Professor Kriegsfeld has won several awards for research and service, including the Frank A. Beach Award in Behavioral Neuroendocrinology, the Berkeley Faculty Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Mentoring, and the Department of Psychology Outstanding Service Award.

      light-vectorNew: Independent Memory Care Study

Better days for residents. Lighter days for caregivers.

In a 6-week study at Masonicare, a senior living and memory care community, caregivers saw residents improve across all five areas they tracked: sleep, mood, focus, energy, and memory. They also reported that it eased their daily workload.
